Youth Bowls
Kearsley Bowling Club received a grant to encourage young people to learn Crown Green Bowling. It was good to see the relationship between the youngsters and the pensioners. especially as they sat down in the clubhouse to discuss their scores over a cup of tea. The Kenyan Commonwealth Games Cyclists
Although Bolton was one of the host towns for the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, I spent most of the time covering general news, with one exception- the Kenyan Cyclists. A pair of them set off from the Athletes Village in Fallowfield to train on the Rivington cycling circuit. Unfortunately they failed to realise that it was illegal to cycle on the Kearsley spur of the M61 until stopped by the police. I caught up with them as they were presented with new bikes by Harry Hall Cycles in Manchester. Commissioned by the Bolton Evening News, syndicated to the Daily Star and used on Have I Got News For You.
