Photojournalism Technique/ Tutorials

Paul Burgman's site. A freelance working at the opposite end of the scale to me supplying the national press. Excellent insights into the working life of a press photographer and how to do 'snatches'. Links to all the Nationals addresses ISDN numbers, e-mails etc.

Neil Turner, a photographer for Times Supplements has a page with tutorials on lighting, wiring and equipment. A strong emphasis on digital working.

A tutorial written by myself to help photojournalists get to grips with batch captioning and organising using Fotostation 4.5. This page will take several minutes to download in full over a dial up connection due to the large screenshots.

Local Wedding Photographers

I no longer take on wedding photography assignments due to the pressure of other work. You might want to have a look at my colleague Don Tonge's web site. He has a lively photojournalistic site with innovative presentation.

Equipment Manufacturers and Suppliers

UK site for Sigma, the lens manufacturers. Reviews and specifications. Virtually all my lenses are now Sigma EX series ranging from the excellent 15-30mm DG that sits on my camera all the time up to an aged 400mm used for cricket and golf. Sigma are keen to provide support for professional and press photographers using EX equipment. My 15-30 has survived being hung over a tandoor, popped inside a pizza oven and all that Northern rain.

Humour

Barry Beelzebub Weekly column from the Bristol Evening Post. Devilish tirades and amazingly politically incorrect  comment. Regular attacks on every minority you care to name, donkey throwing Spaniards, Guardianistas, vegetarians and swarthy Welsh people to name a few I'm sure it's all meant to be tongue in cheek!

Spoof weekly newspaper for the fictional towns of Whoft and Framley. For anyone working on a local newspaper it's full of the silliness that you are convinced you have seen before. Try 'Courage of Conker Boy' or some of the small ads that are too much like real life for comfort. Now available as a Penguin softback.
